I went ahead and bought those inserts for the new shoes. I don’t care if it is in my head or not, I’m glad a got them. The placebo effect is strong.

Today felt really good. If it hadn’t been for work I think I would have gone another couple miles. It is so much easier to run outside!

I think I would have had a better pace, but the roads are still pretty slushy and the sidewalks are not great to run on in places.

I felt no pain in my ankle today.

Run - 1.1 hours - 01/28/2009

I ran on the track at the Y tonight. It was the first run in my new shoes. I probably should not have gone as far as I did because I am feeling some pain in my right ankle. It didn’t seem to bother me too much after I got started, though. I could feel my feet hurting because the shoes are not broken in. I don’t know whether to buy the same inserts for them that I had for my old shoes. It makes me kind of nervous not running without them since I have been so used to them for so long.

I decided to run a slow pace tonight so I could get in a long run. It is the first run over 8 miles I have done in a very long time. Since the Bismarck half, perhaps.

Run - 0.9 hours - 01/25/2009

I felt really good today. I don’t know why today’s work out was so much easier than ones the past few times. It might have something to do with my diet today and the fact that I got a good night of sleep last night.

I ran 31 minutes on the track at the Y and averaged a 7:02 pace.
I cooled down for 5 minutes at an 8:39 pace and then I went downstairs and ran on the treadmill. It said I ran 1.83 miles in 15 minutes, an average 8:11 pace.

Today I ran on the track at the Y. I tried to alternate and do five fast laps followed by five slow laps for the last 15 minutes of the run. It was hard for me to keep track of how fast I was running the laps at that point. I had not eaten anything before and my mind was kind of wandering.

The temp. today was above 30, but the wind was blowing between 15 and 20 mph, so it was pretty cold when I was running north.

The trail around O’Leary was not very well kept, so there were times when I was barely move over the drifts…killed my pace.

Tonight was a rest day for me. I went to the Y with Tomi and shoot around for about an hour and then ran with her for 30 minutes. I ran her pace the whole time just to get some extra mileage in. Tomorrow should be nice enough out to run outside again. Things are actually melting outside. It’s strange.

It felt good to get outside and run again today. We are supposed to have some days coming up where it is in the 30s.

I can definitely feel that it is more of a workout running outside. I am not quite able to attack hills like I used to be able to.

Tonight I ran for 45 minutes on the track at the Y. I went downstairs to talk to Tomi who was on a treadmill and ended up running on the treadmill next to her for 20 minutes. I would estimate there was a 15 minute bread between the two workouts.

I should not have done such a long workout tonight because we have a basketball game tomorrow.

This was my first run out in over a month. It felt good to run somewhere other than a treadmill or an indoor track. It was snowy and hard to make headway many times, but it was worth it.
