Today I ran with Tomi for a little bit. I just got done playing ball for a couple hours, so I was pretty tired. It was good to get out and go a couple miles really slow since I already pushed hard playing ball.

Run - 1.3 hours - 05/27/2009

Originally I had not planned to run this far today, but when I got out there it was too nice to only go for a 30 minute run. I probably started off too quickly, but it worked out. I tried something new today that I don’t usually do. I stopped for water a few times through this run. I stopped at about mile 3 and mile 6 for water. It felt good to get a drink in the middle of the run, but I didn’t eat right today for a run this long, so it’s hard to tell how much benefit the water stops were. We played the first series of our playoff games tonight at 6, so I had already spent about 40 minutes playing ball. Had I not done that I think I would have been more ready for a long run.

I’m really looking forward to getting some really long runs in this summer so that I can run the full marathon in the fall.

It was too nice out today to not go for a run. I went out to get a few easy miles in after yesterday’s hard run. It was so nice out. I wish I would not have run yesterday so I could have gone for a long one today.

I had to stop once to use the bathroom this time.

Fast run

I went out today after taking another extra day off. I played ball pretty hard on Wednesday so I took Thursday off. I was feeling pretty good today. This is the fastest, farthest I have run in a very long time. I was feeling pretty in the zone today.

It was 64 degrees and was raining a little bit, so it felt pretty nice out. I am really happy with this run. I feel like I could have gone farther, but I’m glad I ended when I did because I don’t want to overdo it.

Cody and I parked cars and ran with the wind today. I don’t know what happened, but I hit a wall with about a mile and a half left. I started getting dizzy and my extremities were tingling. It was a little more than 70 degrees out, so it was the warmest run of the year, but it doesn’t seem like it was so hot out that my body should have reacted like that. I think I didn’t have enough water.

Beautiful day today! I ran with Cody today. He took a couple weeks off becuase of injury and is just getting back into it. I can’t even begin to explain how much I appreciate being able to run without stopping for the bathroom.

Today I really felt sore in my legs. I should have gone a shorter distance because I don’t want to injure myself. I played basketball pretty hard last night so I didn’t really get a recovery day.

Run - 0.8 hours - 05/12/2009

This is my first time out after the half on Saturday. I was going to do 4-5 miles at about a 7:30 pace because I thought I would need the recovery. I got out, though, and felt amazing so I just went with it. It was 72 degrees, breezy, and smelled like rain. It started raining on me with about a mile left.

I stopped once to use the bathroom, but it wasn’t like it has been the past couple months. I felt in control and not worried about my stomach.

Fargo half marathon

Today was half marathon day. I woke up at 5 in the morning so I could get something to eat early enough so that it wouldn’t bother me while I was running. I had 1/4 of a waffle with a little bit of syrup and a few swallows of orange juice. Then I went out to go for a run to warm up my legs. I ran for a mile and a half at about a 12 min/mile pace. I came back and took a shower to relax a little bit. Tomi and I left the hotel at about 6:50. The race started at 8. The traffic was pretty bad and we didn’t get to the Fargodome until 7:20 or so. I was pretty anxious. This race meant a lot to me. I worked hard to get ready for this one and the race was about conquering something more than the miles.

The gun went off and it was another 4 minutes before I crossed the start line. There were close to 15000 people registered for the event. The suporting crowds were amazing. They lined all the streets while we ran. Bands played and entertainers entertained. It was an awesome run. People were cheering for you the whole way and some were yelling my name and they didn’t even know me (I had my name written on my race number).

I didn’t even feel the first 4 miles. My stomach was fine. The first time I remember breathing a little hard was at mile 6…I was feeling good. I was trying to keep an 8:30/mile pace, but every time I looked at my watch, I was running about an 8:00/mile pace.

I noticed myself speeding up toward the end of the race. I was feeling pretty good and I knew I had a little more energy in me. At that point I knew my stomach was going to be fine, so I pushed it. From about mile 9 on I was running a 7:30/mile pace. I knew I was going to be close to my time from the Bismarck half and I really wanted to beat it at that point. The last two miles I ran better than 7:30 and I was pumped. By the time I got back to the Fargodome I was running 6:30 pace and a 5:56 pace across the finish line.

I’m really really happy with how this race turned out. I was pretty emotional coming across that line.

I’m going to spend the summer training for the Bismarck full marathon in the fall.
